From the Warshington Post, Judge Rejects Md. Anti-Gay Marriage Law
. In her ruling, I really think she makes one of the most insightful comments I've heard applied to this issue in a while:
...although tradition and societal values are important, they cannot be given so much weight that they alone will justify a discriminatory statutory classification.
Anyone here besides me see this as being no different than the discrimination against women and non-Caucasians that we've had to draft laws like the Civil Rights Act to address? <sarcasm>Of course, true Gawd-fearing people know that Gawd would not allow such a thing as homosexuality to be part of the genetic make-up, so of course gays and lesbians are choosing to be homosexual unlike women and non-Caucasians who can't help that they are somehow genetically inferior.</sarcasm>.
If you live in Maryland, now is the time to start lobbying your representatives. I can't believe in this overwhelming otherwise liberal state (do NOT get me started on Joe Curan and his rabid anti-gun stance) we are even dealing with this issue... this needs to be nipped in the bud, so don't have to fight the Christian Fundamentalcases (thanks cartoonmayhem) at the polls to avert a very bad state constitutional amendment.
